The Final Week
The Final Week
The Gospel writers slow down and explain the final week in detail as they knew what was going to happen but maybe didn’t understand the magnitude of the situation at first
Holy Week throughout the Christian church does the very thing, slow down and absorb the details of what took place this final week
The victory and freedom comes alone with Jesus
We want to give our attention has a church community to what Jesus did through His death, burial and resurrection
Take this week and to step away from the busy week and distractions and to slow down and focus on Jesus and what He did
Has we focus on the last few days of Jesus life, we don’t want to lose focus on the events that happened a long time ago impact our lives today
When we get disappointed, I think that expectations weren’t met
Disappointed by what I’m experiencing is different than what I was expecting
And we are all like this. You, me, and everyone else has experienced this
Maybe those expectations haven’t been met yet and you’re disappointed where things are
Maybe you’re not at the career you thought or maybe you expected to be married but you can’t believe you’re still singe
This wasn’t the plan or the expectations
Or maybe you thought we would be on the other side of this pandemic but that wasn’t what you expected
Maybe you thought God would answer a certain prayer
You think He hasn’t answered it or I think He answered it
He didn’t answer it the way you thought He should
2020 has been a year of some disappointments
Maybe your dream wedding, graduation or compete in a national event but you were disappointed because of unseen circumstances
We feel disappointed in these moments because our expectations wasn’t met
Over 2000 years ago the crowd began to be disappointed in Jesus because they were not experiencing what they were expecting
They had expectations of what Jesus was going to do for them
How He was going to free them from the Roman oppression and how He was going to be this political leader that they were expecting
When Jesus didn’t meet their expectations, they started to feel disappointed and disillusioned and maybe that’s how we feel at times
Disillusionment carries some deeper emotions with it
We tend to blame a little bit more from it
Seeing Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a donkey would be what the people was expecting from a powerful political leader
People was not expecting Jesus to be gentle. Political people are not gentle people
A donkey isn’t a display of power. I picture a stallion has a display of power. But this wasn’t what people were expecting
Jesus is coming into Jerusalem has humility not has power
Disappointment to disillusionment because Jesus didn’t come into Jerusalem the way people was expecting Him to come
They went from shouting Hosanna!! To crucify Him!!!
Their expectations of what they thought would happen never happened
What if what God wants to do is better than my expectations of what He should do?
Jesus was bringing victory but not what people were expecting
Jesus was bringing a better victory
A victory over sin and death
